Obscured Media
Download

One host. Every screen.

The Windows app is the whole product — vault, library and server. The Android and Quest clients connect to it over your own network. Every build is published right here with SHA-256 checksums, and every platform has a written installation guide so you are never guessing.

Windows

v0.38.1 · Windows 10/11 · x64

Start here. The Windows app is the whole product — vault, library, player and server in one download. The phone and headset are clients that connect back to it. No account required, and no background services unless you deliberately enable one. Two builds, same application:

PortableRecommended

A single .exe. No installer, no administrator rights, nothing written to Program Files or the registry — run it from anywhere, including a USB stick. This is the build we test hardest and the one we use ourselves.

InstallerAlternative

A traditional setup program: Start-menu and desktop shortcuts, and an entry under Add or remove programs. Choose this if you would rather Windows kept track of the install for you. It gets less testing than the portable build.

  • Requires the WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11)
  • Optional: VLC and FFmpeg are discovered if you have them, never bundled
  • Both builds are the same version and carry the same published checksum

Android

v0.38.1 · Android 8.0+ · APK

The native phone and tablet client — discovery, pinned-identity trust, the full playback experience with saved moments and skip scenes, plus a Quick Resume PIN.

  • Sideload: allow "install unknown apps" for your browser or file manager
  • Also runs on Android TV / NVIDIA Shield via the TV launcher
  • Connects over your LAN — same network as the Windows host

Meta Quest

v0.38.1 · Quest 2/3/Pro · APK

Your library on a private theatre screen in the headset. Pair once with a six-digit code approved on your PC — no password typing in VR, reconnects automatically.

  • Sideload with developer mode (SideQuest or adb)
  • Immersive theatre build for Quest 2, 3 and Pro
  • Passthrough toggle and capability-aware playback

Verify what you run. Every release publishes a SHA256SUMS.txt beside its binaries. Compare with PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\ObscuredMedia-*.exe — the hashes must match exactly. In this category you should demand that from every vendor, including us.
Guides

Read it before you need it.

Three written guides with screenshots, covering setup and both sideloaded clients. Open one now, or keep it on the machine you're setting up.

01

Set up and use Obscured Media

The full guide: creating your library, choosing a password and exporting your recovery file, protecting your first folder, starting the server and adding screens. Start here if you have just downloaded the Windows app.

02

Install on Meta Quest

Step-by-step sideloading for Quest 2, 3 and Pro: turning on developer mode, installing the APK with SideQuest or adb, and pairing the headset to your PC with a six-digit code.

Open the Quest guide →
03

Install on Android

Sideloading the APK on a phone, tablet or Android TV: allowing installs from your browser or file manager, granting the permissions the client actually needs, and connecting to the host on your network.

Open the Android guide →
Each guide is one self-contained page. The screenshots are embedded in the file itself and nothing loads from anywhere else, so you can save a guide with Ctrl+S, print it to PDF, or copy it onto the machine you are setting up and read it with no internet at all.
First five minutes

From download to out-of-sight

01

Create your library

Run the exe, set a password (12+ characters), and export your recovery file somewhere safe. That file is your lifeline — no account exists to reset anything.

02

Protect a folder

Drag a folder in, choose Secure, press once. Watch the filenames become noise in Explorer — that's the product working, verifiable in real time.

03

Add your screens

Press Start Server, install the Android or Quest client, and approve the pairing on your PC. Your 14-day Plus trial starts at that first server press — not before.
